A path of hyperlinks towards a phygital exploration
ETSAM Architecture School | MACA Master’s Thesis
This thesis explores the “phygital” artifact—a hybrid object that exists simultaneously in the physical world and the digital realm of Instagram. Investigating how creators use 3D and AR tools to push the limits of representation, the project redefines social media as a contemporary art gallery where physical materiality meets post-digital imagination.
The research culminated in a Complementary Phygital Book, a hybrid publication that bridges analog and digital media. While the printed book is readable on its own, its full narrative is only unlocked through the Augmenta app. By scanning the drawings, readers reveal hidden digital layers, videos, and links, creating an interactive experience that requires the printed page, a smartphone, and augmented reality to be fully realized.
